Denver Scholarship Foundation – Executive Search

Problem

Demands on non-profit institutions for increasing services require deeper understanding, aptitude and relationships in order to secure funds that will enhance current operations and long-term sustainability.  As the number of schools and students partnering with Denver Scholarship Foundation exponentially rose, so too did the need for a higher level chief development officer – one who knows management, vertical fundraising strategies, creative connections all while exhibiting high skills and emotional intelligence.

Solution
Rather than casting a wide net or reaching out to folks and asking for suggested names, RDM Communications principal staff brainstormed people already connected to academia, those who were already managing development staff, and those tied to the Denver Public School district.  This led to authentic conversations about the opportunity and why a jump from an existing job (every candidate was currently employed in a high level fundraising positions) would be personally and professionally fulfilling.  As an added value, RDM embeds post-hiring coaching and support into each contract if desired.

Results
Three potential candidates were discovered not through a LinkedIn or job posting site, but rather personal outreach by RDM Communications.   DSF leadership concurred that two of the three were worth of a job offer given the caliber, connection and competence.   Because of personal relationships and an inherent understanding of the community, RDM understood the chemistry between CEO and CDO and the job offer was extended and accepted.  RDM will help on board and be an additional thought partner during the first six months of new hire.
