Safe2Tell was developed in response to recommendations of the Columbine Commission. It gives Colorado-based students (as well as parents, faculty and staff) an outlet for intervention and prevention of any violence or related act. Safe2Tell includes 1-877-542-SAFE, an anonymous toll free line answered live by The Colorado State Patrol’s communication center around the clock.  In its first ten years the calls, web reports and texts received resulted in almost 10,000 Tip Reports from 163 Colorado cities and 59 counties. Outcomes include the prevention of nearly three dozen planned school attacks and more than 700 suicide interventions. RDM Communications joined with Interface Consulting to create a $1,000,000 case for support and the marketing, organizational development, media training and public relations to complement the fundraising effort. A new brochure was created in addition to Spanish language posters, board expansion, corporate funding and the passage of a statewide law – S197 – that seals the records of anonymous phone calls to Safe2Tell.

On May 5, 2014, the Colorado General Assembly adopted Senate Bill 2014-002, incorporating Safe2Tell under the Colorado Office of the Attorney General and providing the necessary funding to ensure the Safe2Tell reporting tip line, trainings and education and awareness efforts are available to Colorado students, schools, and communities.
